2017 Sonoma Friday Photoblog

- in Latest News

Clear skies with a touch of haze, comfortable temperatures, and a light breeze were a treat today for those of us who remember the 95-degree heat of last year’s IndyCar finale. The forecast remains constant throughout the weekend, allowing us to concentrate on the scorching showdown for the championship.

Seven drivers are mathematically in contention; five have a strong chance of winning the title; three will win it all simply by winning Sunday’s race. I’ll point out some contenders in today’s photos, and be sure to check tomorrow’s for the full scoop.

Scott Dixon is ready for morning practice Friday at Sonoma. He currently trails championship leader Josef Newgarden by just three points.

Ryan Hunter-Reay’s car receives setup changes during morning practice at Sonoma.

Jack Harvey’s number 7 machine sports an eye-catching purple.

Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato leaves pit lane to turn some laps.

Graham Rahal’s car wins “Most Patriotic” by a landslide.

Points leader Josef Newgarden is fastest in each practice session today.

Alexander Rossi waits for his team to complete changes during morning practice. Rossi is 6th in points with a mathematical chance to win the title.
Conor Daly sports the Race 4 Houston logo on his machine.

A green number 13. I’m guessing Zachary Claman DeMelo isn’t superstitious…

“Tresiba gives you Monster Energy.”

Charlie Kimball has a message for us all.
